An enchanting land is waiting for you

«Non han sì aspri sterpi né sì folti
quelle fiere selvagge che ‘n odio hanno
tra Cecina e Corneto i luoghi cólti.»
(Dante, Inferno, Canto XIII, vv. 7-9)
Between Cecina and Tarquinia, as recalled by Dante in his Inferno, there is Maremma: an area of culture, good food and great wine.
It clings between hills with bright colors, changing with seasons, from green to yellow to the dark brown of the earth; it descends down to the sea along hairpin turns, following rivers and streams.
It was historically called Maremma Pisana, because ancient rule of the Republic of Pisa, with the passing of years has been distinguished from the Livornese.

The biodiversity of the area is one of its main characteristics: flora and fauna but also fields and vineyards characterize these places with unique flavor where tradition is king.

Rows of grapes that will become great DOC wines, such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Masseto, Guado al Tasso, Biserno, from grains and cereals, to local fruits and vegetables, olives that will produce an excellent extra virgin oil, are the unique products of this land.

Meet the tastes of the earth to enjoy a unique sensory experience

Alta Maremma, in which the village of Castagneto Carducci is a fundamental part, is a very special place where the flavors of earth and sea blend with the great wines of the area in fantastic combinations created by local top chefs.
Fulvio Pierangelini, with his restaurant Gambero Rosso, and Luciano Zazzeri, with his restaurant Pineta, have been able to adapt local and traditional ingredients to modern tastes.
Many other excellent restaurant owners followed the example of these two great restaurateurs allowing tourists to wander around the unspoilt countryside and the historical towns of the area looking for refined sensory experiences.

Wine-wise, men like Niccolò Antinori, his sons Piero and Lodovico, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, Piergiorgio Meletti Cavallari, Angelo Gaia were those who created and nurtured the worldwide famous Supertuscan with the labels of Sassicaia, Masseto, Ornellaia, Grattamacco, Guado al Tasso, Biserno, Promis.
From the encounter between large manufacturers and large restaurateurs (the last ones, by living by the sea, create excellent fish dishes), tourists have many opportunities to explore our land far and wide.
A special mention goes to the extra virgin olive oil from the hills benefitting from the unique environment made of air and sea and sun of our country.
The “colombo al Pentolo”, the wild boar “alla cacciatora”, the tagliatelle with wild boar (try these dishes at Enoteca Tognoni Bolgheri), the cod ” alla Livornese”, the “Campigliese”, the chestnut pie “castagnaccio”, and other dishes are important elements of the culinary memory of this beautiful part of Tuscany.
